CISDI Short-stress Mill

To meet the steel producers’ goal of producing high added-value products, CISDI has tackled the challenge after four years of painstaking research to develop series of short-stress mill with 11 national patents, reaching world leading level. Over 300 such equipment has been sold by June 2013, with total contract value at app. RMB 4 billion.

Technical Challenges are tackled by innovation
Short-stress mill, as core equipment of modern rod & wire and section rolling line, have kept being updated in structure to feature high rigidity, fair load support by bearing an bearing block, symmetric adjustment and fast roll changing. However, typical problems such as axial shifting, poor guide stability, incomplete range of mill sizes and difficult lifting of large vertical mills have hindered further promotion of the technology.

The series of short-stress mill developed by CISDI have been widely used as wire & rod and section steel blooming mill, roughing mill, intermediate mill and finishing block.

CISDI has joined hands with universities and steel producers since 1997 to develop short-stress mill technology and has achieved several innovations, including large-section roll and tie rod, novel construction with supporting tie rod base at middle and disc spring inside the tie rod to form high-strength and high-rigidity mill, contributing to good stability and constant balancing force to allow premium steel rolling. U-shaped arm of chock is directly locked onto the tie rod base to prevent axial shifting of roll and lateral force of tie rod. Large mills are designed with middle suspension and small mills with hydraulic cylinder for pulling at angle to avoid vertical mill tilting during lifting. Guide baser is directly mounted onto the mill sliding block to improve the guide stability, contributing to better rolling accuracy. The max. rolls are sized at ф1,000mm/850mmx1,350mm, filling the blank of large short-stress mill in China.

Wide Application
CISDI has successfully implemented its short-stress mill in Nanjing Steel, Panzhihua Changchen Special Steel, CSN (Brazil0, Shijiazhuang Steel (Heibei Steel Group), Rizhao Steel, etc. The order from CSN for the long-steel production line using short-stress mill technology amounts to RMB280 million.
